Coffee Packaging
PROJECT BRIEF: Design a brand identity and packaging system for Sparkplug Coffee Co., a California based small batch coffee roaster.
MOODBOARD & SKETCHES: This project started with inspiration from vintage general-store style packaging. I love mid-century inspired hand-painted signs and beautifully simple typography and wanted to play with those concepts in my own design work. I began collecting images onto a mood board and used a mind map to organize my ideas. Before working digitally, I sketched some logo thumbnails inspired by the stamped burlap bags from my mood board.
PIVOTING: And then life got really busy and this design project took a backseat for a few weeks. I kept trying to return to it and just couldn't find the spark. Since this was a self-directed project, I had the freedom to change course, so I did. Rather than scrap all of the work I'd done and leave the project unfinished, I completely changed it. I changed the name, saturated the colors, played with funky fonts, and wrote a brand story that was inspired by the women in my life.
MOCKS: As a result, the finished project was more authentic to my design style. It was excellent practice in redirection and finishing what I start.
