Magazine
Spreads
PROJECT BRIEF: Create three magazine spreads, each dedicated to one of three selected graphic designers. Across the set, identify and visually articulate a shared thread that connects all three designers' work.
RESEARCH & MOODBOARDING: The designers I selected each had ties to the music industry. I created a research deck for each designer that highlighted some of their work that really spoke to me, while looking for commonalities between the designers.

SKETCHES & ROUGHS: I sketched out a few layout designs before taking my ideas into InDesign. I experimented with changing up the layout structure, and was really drawn to the cloudy sky imagery I found in all three designer's work in the research phase.

FIRST ITERATION
SECOND ITERATION: As I dug into research to find copy for the magazines, I was really drawn to the messy collage style of found objects that some of Kel and Jesse's work features. A sort of "controlled chaos" that had a very hand-made quality that I wanted to include in my designs as well. Layering these elements became my favorite part of this project.

FINAL: The finishing touches included a lot of fine-tuning. I focused my energy on making sure the small details were just right, like aligning text to the baseline grid, eliminating widows and orphans, and relishing in the satisfaction of hanging punctuation in a neatly justified block of text.
